new blog for a new year.. yes trevor, i got it changed! ;)
i'm not a new year's resolution person.. i don't keep them so why start off the new year by lying to myself? :) but this year is a little different for me. after the tumultuous year that i've had i've decided that in 2007 i'm going to do more things for me. not being selfish, but doing things i love doing. i'm going to travel more (not go everywhere in 2007, but i'm off to a good start! (jen, only 23 more days!!!) i'm gonna laugh more, not be bothered by petty, small things. i'm going to spend more time with people i love, i'm going to keep in touch with people better (email, phone and snail mail) and i'm going to look after myself better (as i sit here with a bowl of ice cream, but it's still 2006).... i could write a list a mile long, but i think it's a good start!

christmas eve
"Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. "For there is born to you this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. "And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" Luke 2:10-14

sheppard staff fight, shaken baby jesus and a whole lotta messed up lines = one holy night
first off, let me explain the title. we had our christmas concert for sunday school tonight, and there's only about 8 kids in the sunday school, including two very wild boys. they did not sit still thru the whole play (which thankfully was only about 15 minutes long. they had fights with the sheppard staffs , and tried to hook the microphones that are attached to the wall over thier heads(and they weren't sheppards, they were wise men) they kept throwing their "gold" and "myrhh" gifts and then the best part (i feel bad even saying the best, but i was laughing very hard at this point) was when they went over to the manger and started to beat up baby jesus!!! oh no!! (thankfully, it was only a doll)
needless to say, the wisemen got taken out of the play after this!! overall, it was a pretty disatrous concert, but we all had a good time. i'm pretty sure there wasn't an event in the play that didn't have something go wrong in it, but after all, that's what makes sunday school concerts memorable.....
dee, leah and i also sang "o holy night" (my absolute favourite christmas song)... i got a little lost at one point and just stopped singing when i realized we all were singing different words, but no one noticed they said... i think they were just being kind :)

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O'er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

blue christmas
i'm just not feeling it. christmas spirit is definately lacking this year. i'm just not in the spirit. anyone who knows me well knows that i love christmas and look forward to spending time with family, seeing old friends and just love the music and the love that the holiday brings. not this year. mom and i put up the tree the other nite (which is normally done on december 1st at least) and i just couldn't get in the mood. i don't listen to my christmas music.. i haven't even finished my shopping and none of my gifts are wrapped. my cards are addressed, but are still sitting on my dresser, and i just don't feel the spirit of the holiday.. anyone else feel like this? i just don't know how to snap out of it. my older brother and his gf and george will be home this year.. i am excited about seeing them, but nothing else. why am i so grinchy? :(
